Casting Director Workshops
While Talent Garage offers many services to enhance your career, the most popular is the Casting Director Workshop. This is your opportunity to put yourself in front of the people making day-to-day casting decisions on every major television show, feature film and soap opera being shot in Los Angeles.
The workshops are approximately 2 hours long and consist of a maximum of 24 performers. The first part of the workshop is a brief Q & A with the industry professional (typically a casting director, agent, or producer). The industry pro will tell us a bit about themselves, what projects they are working on, and what they look for in an actor. Be sure to pay attention!
After the Q & A, the casting director will hand out sides, either pairing you with another actor or giving you a scene to read with them. These workshops are considered “cold reading”, so you’ll be given a limited amount time to prepare your scene. The order in which scenes are performed is random. Some workshops, you’ll go first. Sometimes last. So always be ready!
Talent Garage only brings in casting professionals who are actively working on projects. So you’ll always be reading fresh material. Sometimes you’ll be reading scenes that haven’t even aired yet! It’s important to remember that you will not be reading for a specific role and taking workshops at Talent Garage is for training and networking purposes. It is not a guarantee of future work. But it certainly increases your chances.
The bottom line is this: you have to take your career into your own hands. Very few actors are “discovered” at a restaurant, car wash or shopping mall. However, they ARE discovered at Talent Garage.
